Falcons Avoid the Choke Upsetting Rams

What a week to be a Falcons fan, the Falcons were able to defeat the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 21-24, narrowly avoiding a choke job that only the Falcons could do. Let’s now take a deep dive and see how crazy this game truly was.

The Rams were coming into this game mad after a loss on TNF to the Seahawks, which I covered a week and a half ago here. So they were desperate to secure the win and try to secure an opportunity to claim the number 5 overall seed. But the Falcons wanted it more. The game opened up with a Falcons TD to Bijan Robinson, who would go on to have a historic day. This was all the scoring in the 1st quarter.

In the second quarter, Matthew Stafford was looking for a way to answer back, but he did the opposite, throwing his first INT and TD of the day as Jessi Bates would catch the interception for the Falcons and return it 34 yards to the endzone to go up 14-0. Stafford would throw his 2nd INT, which would then set up the fastest 2-minute drill I have ever seen live as Bijan Robinson would have his second score of the day, going 93 yards to the house to go up 21-0 with around 1:38 seconds left in the half.

To open up the half, the Rams would hit a 35-yard field goal to make the score 21-3. Then the Falcons would respond with a 56-yard field goal of their own to make the score 24-3. Then Terrence Furguson would make a TD grab to cut the lead to 24-10, then the Rams would block a field goal attempt, and Jared Verse would take it to the house to make it a 1-score game 24-17.

Then Stafford would hit his favorite receiver this season, Puka Nacua, for the 11-yard TD to tie the game. The Falcons would respond with a field goal, and the Rams could not respond, the final score being 27-24 Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons were able to avoid the choke, or a term deemed “Falcon it.” Matthew Stafford would hand his MVP bid to Drake Maye by throwing 3 interceptions. The Falcons can ruin the Buccaneers’ season next week with a win.
