NFL Injuries and How They Could Affect NFL Season and History

Week 15 in the NFL, a sad week if you were a player with the initials of M and P in either of your names, as major Injuries occurred to multiple time MVP and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and former Defensive Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons both had major injuries by tearing their ACL, But these were not the only heartbreaking injuries that occurred in the NFL with playoff seeding coming down to the wire.

Devante Adams: Devante Adams is one of the best receivers of the 2010s and so far the 2020s, with his route running and catching, I am sure that he will one day have a speech in Ohio at the Hall of Fame Ceremony. He suffered a Hamstring injury in the 4th quarter in a loss against the Detroit Lions, a game that had major playoff implications. The Veteran Adams is questionable to play Thursday in a divisional matchup that once again has major playoff implications, Puka Nacua also did not finish the Lions game, however the team announced that he was just dealing with cramps and will play on Thursday. Hopefully the Rams can remain healthy throughout the remainder of the regular season so that they can make a push to hold up the Lombardi Trophy in February.

Christian Watson: Another Wide Receiver, he suffered a chest injury against the Broncos, with this injury, Watson has yet to finish an entire season healthy, due to a ACL injury he sustained towards the end of last year.

Rome Odunze: Odunze was supposed to play against the Cardinals, but in pregame he re agrivated the stress fracture in his foot causing him to sit out of the game, he was limited this week in practice, and is questionable to return this Sunday, this is a major blow to the Chicago Bears as they continue to push for the 1 Seed in the NFC.

Patrick Mahomes: This injury was already mentioned, but lets take a deeper look at the injury, He suffered a Torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) as well as a seperated LCL (Lateral Collateral Ligament) in this game causing him to have surgery the day after the injury took place on Monday, this is rare, but due to the LCL injury the Chiefs training staff wanted the surgery done as soon as possible. This being Patrick’s second career Knee injury, as he suffered a dislocated Patella Tendon his 2nd season, where he was able to recover and win the Super Bowl. This injury scares me as a Chiefs fan, because I don’t think Mahomes will ever have that same mobility that he had prior to the injury, and that will be extremely sad to see happen.

All in all a very sad week for the NFL as a whole as many teams lost their number 1 option on offense, and the Packers lose the best player they have on the offense, as a fan of the sport I pray that everyone comes back next season healthy and ready to play, and I am curious to see if these major injuries will affect the “Turf vs Grass” debate which has been going on for decades.
